Ruby Lavohn (Jarred) Owens, 93, Iola, formerly of rural Humboldt, passed away Thursday, Aug. 27, 2015, at Greystone Residential Care in Iola.
Ruby was born Oct. 13, 1921, on a farm north of Altoona, the daughter of Roy and Nina (Lawson) Jarred. She grew up on the family farm and graduated from Altoona High School.
On July 4, 1940, Ruby married Clarence John Owens and they made their home on a farm at Altoona. They later moved to farms near LaHarpe and east of Humboldt on Tank Farm Road. In 1972, they built their home on their farm east of Humboldt and lived there until entering Fountain Villa, now Greystone, in Iola in 2006. Clarence preceded her in death Sept. 12, 2011, after celebrating 71 years of marriage.
Ruby was a farm wife who worked in the fields with Clarence. She was a member of St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Humboldt, Mission of Love Quilting Guild at the church, Busy Bee Social Club and farmer’s wives extension home unit. She enjoyed her grandkids.
Survivors are her two daughters, Phyllis Boan and Marilyn Bumstead and husband, Ron, Humboldt; son-in-law, Bill Owens, Humboldt; one sister, Berdean Wall, Iola; eight grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, daughter Charlotte Owens, granddaughter Peggy Weseloh and siblings Arlene Jones, Wanda English and Dorrall Jarred.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m., Monday, at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Humboldt, with visitation an hour prior to the service.
Burial will be at Highland Cemetery, Iola.
