Rose Mary Maddox, Iola, passed into the presence of her Heavenly Father on Friday, July 17, 2015, at the age of 82.
Rose Mary was born Aug. 25, 1932, in St. Paul, to Michael and Alena (McFall) Westhoff. She grew up in St. Paul and graduated from St. Francis School in St. Paul.
In 1953, she married Edgar Maddox. They made their home in Moran and Iola most of their married life. He preceded her in death Nov. 29, 1974.
Rose Mary was a homemaker and raised seven children. After her children were practically raised, she worked for USD 257 food service for 19 years, the last seven as food service director. She also worked as secretary for St. John’s Catholic Church for over 17 years, a job she loved.
She was a member of St. John’s Catholic Church for 54 years, St. John’s Altar Society, American Legion and V.F.W. Auxiliary and had been a volunteer for the Allen County Hospital Auxiliary. She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She also enjoyed her many friends, Iola band concerts and KU basketball.
She is survived by five of her children, Debra Collins, Neosho Falls, Deanna Saichompoo, Stephen Maddox, Mary Leigh Tucker and Suzanne Krone, all of Iola; one brother, Julian “Cotton” Westhoff, Pittsburg; one sister, Barbara Schippers, Wichita; 18 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-granddaughter.
She was preceded in death by two sons, Gary and Mark Maddox; parents Michael and Alena Westhoff; husband, Edgar; brothers John, Paul and Luke Westhoff; and sisters Elizabeth and Theresa Marie.
Parish Rosary will be at 7 p.m., Tuesday, at St. John’s Catholic Church in Iola. Funeral Mass will be at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, at St. John’s Catholic Church in Iola. Burial will be at Highland Cemetery, Iola.
