Ronald Lee Call, 77, Yates Center, passed away early Wednesday, Jan. 31, 2018, at his home.
Ron was born Jan. 27, 1941, in Iola, the son of Delmar and Launa (Merryman) Call.
He spent most of his childhood in LaHarpe, and graduated from LaHarpe High School in 1959. He then earned a bachelor of science degree in education from Emporia State University. He taught and coached at schools in Hollenberg, Welda, Greeley, Madison, Anthony and Moran. Coaching was his passion, as he enjoyed providing kids the fundamentals to succeed not only in sports but in life. He had taken several of his high school teams to state tournaments and was named to the coaching staff for the first Kansas Shrine Bowl. He left a legacy from his coaching and had a positive influence on numerous students. Over the years he continued his education and earned a master’s degree from Northwestern Oklahoma State University.
In 1981 he moved to Yates Center and became a magistrate judge representing Woodson County. He served as president of the Kansas District Judges Association and served on the legislative committee. He retired as district judge in 2002.
Ron was a 50-year member of the Masonic Lodge. He was a member of the Crown Victoria Car Club and enjoyed his car collection. He was also known as a great storyteller.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a niece, Dana Paddock.
He leaves Linda, his wife of more than 55 years, of the home in Yates Center; his daughter, Cindy Boyd and husband David, McLouth; his son, Jack Call and wife Connie, Emporia; four grandchildren, Rebecca Boyd, Lawrence, Ashley Boyd, McLouth, and Brooke and Baylee Call, Emporia; his sister, Peggy Paddock and husband David, Ottawa; a nephew, Justin Paddock and wife Janet, Ottawa; three great-nieces; and numerous other relatives and friends.
Cremation is planned. The family will meet with friends at 1 p.m. Saturday at Campbell Funeral Home in Yates Center before proceeding to Yates Center Cemetery for 2:30 p.m. Masonic graveside services.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Kansas Shrine Bowl or the American Diabetes Assoc., and may be sent in care of Campbell Funeral Home, PO Box 188, Yates Center, KS 66783.
