Robert L. Powell, 83, Iola, passed away Monday, July 13, 2015, at Moran Manor.
Robert was born Oct. 16, 1931, on the family homestead west of Colony, the son of Ernest Amos and Lucy Virginia (Fultz) Powell. He grew up in the Geneva area before the family moved to LaHarpe. He graduated from LaHarpe High School in 1949. Robert then served three years in the U.S. Army being stationed in Germany.
On June 10, 1955, Robert married Betty L. Anderson at the Xenia Baptist Church. They have always made their home in Iola. He worked for H.L. Miller & Son Dress Factory and did carpentry work. He was a member of the Iola Baptist Temple.
Survivors are his wife of 60 years, Betty L. Powell; four sons, Robert Powell, Jr. and wife, Bonnie, Iola, Richard Powell and wife, Sharon, Iola, Rory Powell and Paul Abbott, Lenexa, and Ray Powell, Stuart, Fla.; five grandchildren, Robert Powell III and Lissa, Joshua Powell, Ashley Powell, Ann Powell-Eckley and husband, Brandon and Alex Price; two great-grandchildren, Stella and Aurora
He was preceded in death by 11 siblings.
Cremation has taken place.
Memorial service will be at 10 a.m., Saturday, at Iola Baptist Temple with visitation to follow.
