Robert Edwin Moerer Sr., 79, Yates Center, died Friday, June 3, 2011, at Overland Park Regional Medical Center.
He was born Nov. 22, 1931, in Yates Center, the son of Ronald Earl and Helen Catherine (Schaede) Moerer.
He grew up on a farm east of Yates Center and graduated from Yates Center High School. On Feb. 2, 1951, he married Patricia Ann Marion. They were the parents of six children. She preceded him in death on June 4, 1959.
He farmed with his father and worked for Schaede Oil Company. He then worked for Chapman Construction and Jim Wagner as a backhoe operator. He lived in Oklahoma for 10 years before moving back to the farm to help his parents in 1994. For the past several years he has helped neighbors put up hay.
He attended First Christian Church in Yates Center when his children were growing up.
He is survived by his children, Gene Moerer and wife Sue, Yates Center, Richard Moerer and wife Jackie, Enid, Okla., Bobbie Sauder and husband Steve, Emporia, Herb Moerer, Emporia, Ed Moerer, Gardner, Ron Moerer, Kansas City, Mo., and Allen Moerer and wife Ildi, Gardner; 10 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and three sisters, Juanita Mears, Chanute, Peggy Daniels, Kansas City, Kan., and Kathryn Herder, Iola.
Graveside services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Yates Center Cemetery. The family will meet with friends from 9:30 to 10 at Campbell Funeral Home in Yates Center. The casket will remain closed.
