Robert Arden Culler, 87, Colony, passed away on Sunday, April 12, 2015, at Overland Park Regional Medical Center.
He was born June 25, 1927, in rural Colony, the son of Robert Parker and Clara (Murray) Culler.
Robert attended school in Colony before he was drafted to the U.S. Navy during World War II.
Robert worked at the Walton Foundry in Iola for 33 years as a core maker, and then he was an antenna installer. He also helped Kenny Renyer with farming.
He was a member of the Iola American Legion Post No. 15; the Lions Club of LaHarpe and Colony; and was a coach for baseball teams in the surrounding areas.
Robert married Betty Burton July 1950, and this union was blessed with four children. He then married Thelma New on Feb. 8, 1985, at Iola.
He enjoyed fishing and never forgot how to enjoy life with friends and family; he especially enjoyed family dinners and parties. Robert also could be found at the Colony Grocery Store playing cut-throat pitch.
Robert was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Clara Culler; twin daughters, Jane Ellen and Jillyne Irene; daughter-in-law, Lisa Smart; one sister, Betty Caudell; sister-in-law, Mary Jane Holloway; and brother-in-law, Irvin New.
His wife survives, as do children, Harry Culler and fiancé Karen, Rhode Island, Roger Culler and wife Sherry, Colony, Laura Sterling and husband Pete, Yates Center, Patricia Robertson and husband Kelly, Indiana, Jerald Smart and wife Vickie, Garnett, James Smart, Moran, and Joseph Smart and wife Lynn, Cincinnati, Ohio; 25 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; two sisters, Arlene Allen, Emporia, and Bonnie Rook, Welda; sister-in-law, Darlene Olson and husband Gurdon, Greeley; and brother-in-law, William New, Tulsa.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Feuerborn Family Funeral Service Chapel in Colony. Burial will follow in the Colony Cemetery. The family will greet friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
