Ricky Lee McVey, 55, of Iola died Tuesday, May 3, 2011, at Via Christi Regional Medical Center St. Francis Campus in Wichita.
He was born July 23, 1955, in Iola, to Dale Eugene and Glennis Lea (Schaeffer) McVey. He graduated from Shawnee Mission North High School in 1974. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1974 to 1978, in the U.S. Navy from 1979 to 1981 and in the U.S. Army from 1981 to 1984. He served in the Kansas Army National Guard from 1984 until 1999.
He graduated from Cowley County Community College in 1989. He worked as a mechanic for the U.S. Postal Service in Wichita and had been working as a mechanic for the Kansas Department of Transportation in Iola since 2007.
On December 24, 1981, he married Latona Arn. They later divorced.
He was a member of the LaHarpe Veterans of Foreign Wars.
He is survived by his companion, Latona Arn of Iola; three daughters, Violet Drake, Newton, and Amber McVey and Jessica McVey, Iola; his father, Dale McVey, Iola; his mother, Glennis Enloe, Phoenix, Ariz.; four brothers, Joseph Petrosious, Visalia, Calif., Ricky Miller, Moran, David “Duke” Miller, Selma, and Travis Enloe, Phoenix; three sisters, Pamela Asbel, Prior Lake, Minn., Terry Behrens, Phoenix, and Terri Walker, Moran; and a grandson, Martain James Wade.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Jill Elaine McVey in 1976, his stepmother, Zella R. “Midge” McVey, and his step-father, Jerry W. Enloe.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the Waugh-Yokum & Friskel Memorial Chapel in Iola.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Chaplain Lloyd W. Houk will officiate. Burial will be in LaHarpe Cemetery.
