Ivan Rex Calahan, 92, Iola, died Monday, July 7, 2014, at Moran Manor in Moran. He was born on Feb. 10, 1922, in Oberlin, the son of Arthur George and Pearl Mae (King) Calahan.
Rex moved to the Colony area with his family at the age of 13. He worked in the Garnett area before serving with the U.S. Army during World War II. On June 9, 1946, he married Tena Runnells and they lived in Colony before moving to a farm near Lone Elm. They left the farm and moved to Kincaid where they lived for 30 years. He was postmaster and then delivered rural mail before retiring. They moved to Iola in 1985.
He was a member of the Kincaid V.F.W., Kincaid Masonic Lodge and Eastern Star, and the Fort Scott Consistory.
Survivors include his wife, Tena; three sons, Robert, Ottawa, Darrel, Colony, and Douglas, Brighton, Colo.; one daughter, Nancy Henderson, Olathe; one sister, Wanda Quick, Joplin, Mo.; 10 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, Larry, and three brothers, Robert, Kenneth and Virgil.
A visitation will be Friday at Waugh-Yokum & Friskel Memorial Chapel from 6 to 8 p.m. Cremation will follow the visitation with inurnment in Lone Elm Cemetery at a later date.
