Rev. Ronald Lorenzo Bumstead died Thursday, June 6, 2013, at Heritage Health Care in Chanute.
Born Dec. 17, 1927, to Oliver Wellington Bumstead and Margaret Smith in Detroit, Mich., he spent the first 32 years in Michigan prior to his move to Kansas. He was in the Army National Guard as part of a mortar crew. He attended Eastern Michigan University in Ypsilanti as a pre-med student. He worked nine years on a survey crew in Michigan.
In 1954, he felt the calling. On July 2, 1955, he married Connie Jo McKinley in Pontiac, Mich. He continued his education at Sterling College in Sterling, and was ordained a United Methodist minister in 1962. He and Connie, who survives, served many churches in the Kansas East Conference prior to his retirement in 1994. He continued serving churches in his retirement until 2004, when they returned to Humboldt.
Besides his wife, he is survived by a sister, Ramona Cabbad, Brooklyn, N.Y.; a son, Ronald Jr., and his wife, Marilyn, Humboldt; a daughter-in-law, Pam, Woodbridge, Va.; a son, Kevin, and his wife, Sue, Aurora, Colo.; a son, Jonathan, and his wife, Lynn, Overland Park; and a daughter, Beth Ann, Pittsburg; 12 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and a son, Kim.
Cremation has occurred. Visitation will be Monday at 10 a.m. with a memorial service at 11 a.m. at Humboldt United Methodist Church. Memorial contributions may be made to Humboldt United Methodist Church or church of your choice.
