Reed E. Beaman lost his courageous battle with cancer on April 25, 2017.

Reed is survived by his wife of 53 years, Sue; children Cozetta (Kris), Darvin (Lisa) and Sheldon (Kara); 10 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; siblings Charles (Jean) Beaman, Dennis Beaman, Shirley (Don) Stewart and Geneva (Jim) Dixon; along with many wonderful nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents and seven siblings.

Reed was born Sept. 29, 1941, in Fort Scott, to George and Ruth Beaman. He graduated from Moran High School then enlisted in the Navy where he served four years. After he left the service, he married his high school sweetheart and moved to California to start their family in 1964.

Reed worked construction for Local 139 for almost 30 years, 20 of those years with Paul Wright Construction. Additionally, he earned his contractor’s license and built houses, including his family’s current home. Reed was a tireless worker who unretired to work 10 more years at Old Adobe School District in Petaluma, Calif.

Reed was a family man who loved spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Known for his big smile, boisterous laugh and generous heart, Reed was a friend to everyone he met and the life of every party. He loved to travel, play cards and square dance with his wife and many friends. His many jokes and stories will be greatly missed from those lucky enough to meet him. Reed was a dedicated Pit Master of the local horseshoe chapter and spent many hours at the park with his dog Scooter.
