Peggy Ann Ferree, 78, lifelong resident of Woodson County, passed away Saturday night, Dec. 19, 2015, at Allen County Regional Hospital in Iola.
She was born Sept. 30, 1937, in Woodson County, the daughter of Carl E. and Katherine F. (Forquer) Dixon.
On June 1, 1952, Peggy and Altis Gordon Ferree were married in Yates Center. They were blessed with three daughters, Linda, Debbie and Christie.
Peggy and Altis lived east of Yates Center and owned and operated Ferree Farms and Ferree Pipe Supply. Peggy was also a licensed insurance agent and was employed by several agencies before opening Peg’s Crop Insurance in Yates Center, which she managed until her death.
Peggy was an avid bowler and was an active member of the Woodson County Chamber of Commerce. She liked watching the Chiefs, K-State football, and KU basketball, and especially enjoyed attending local girls’ softball games. She really enjoyed the holidays and decorating her gazebo. Peggy’s favorite thing to do was spending time with her family. She especially loved watching her grandchildren and great-grandchildren participate in sporting events and other activities.
Her husband, Altis, preceded her in death on July 19, 2013, following more than 61 years of marriage. She was also preceded by her parents and two brothers, Carl Dixon Jr. and Larry Dixon.
She leaves her daughters, Linda Old and husband Bill, Yates Center, Debbie Horst and husband John, Caney, and Christie Joyce and Stewart Braden, Yates Center; six grandchildren, Michael Old and Shelley Brittain, Casey Old and wife Kara, Alex Horst, Allison Horst-Davidson and husband Adam, Afton Horst-Owen and husband Mike and Ryan Joyce and wife Adallee; nine great-grandchildren, Garrett, Lauryn, Natalee, Kale, Addison, Lana Deane, Dalton, Emmett and Garrison; other relatives and many friends.
Cremation is planned. Peggy’s family will meet with friends from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at Campbell Funeral Home in Yates Center to celebrate Peggy’s life.
The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Yates Center Recreation Dept. or Friends For Life, which may be sent in care of Campbell Funeral Home, P.O. Box 188, Yates Center, KS 66783.
