Paul Henry Tholen, 82, of Moran, went to be with his savior Tuesday, Dec. 14, 2010, at his home surrounded by his family.
He was born April 27, 1928, in Oakley, the son of Henry and Cora (Doughtry) Tholen.
He attended schools in Oakley.
He served in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1947 to 1948.
On June 22, 1948, he married Alice Bahr at Olmitz, Kan.
He started farming in the Oakley area for one year, then moved to Moran to farm. He also worked as a service tech for Western Auto for several years before going into farming full-time.
He was a lifelong member of St. John’s Catholic Church in Iola, and was a member of the American Legion.
Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Alice, of the home; four sons, Rick and wife Peggy of Garnett, Jim and wife Vickie of Iola, Gary and wife Karen of Edmond, Okla., and Robert and wife Julie of Moran; two daughters, Carol Perkins and husband, Mel, of Parsons, and Paula Nipper and husband, Danny, of Osage City; 21 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren with two more on the way; three sisters, Lucille Jennings and Bernice Jackson, both of Hays, and Loretta Jamison and husband Bob of Oklahoma City.
He was preceded in death by an infant twin son, John Paul Tholen.
Visitation is from 6 to 8 p.m. Sun-day at St. John’s Parish Center in Iola.
Rosary will be recited at 9:30 a.m. Monday, followed by Mass at 10 a.m., both at St. John’s Catholic Church in Iola. The Rev. Robert B. Wachter will be celebrant.
Burial will be in Highland Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to Hospice Care Of Kansas, Center Of Hope or Mother Angelica EWTN and left with Waugh-Yokum and Friskel Memorial Chapel of Iola, which is in charge of arrangements.
