Patricia (Pat) Ann (Bond) Weiner, 74, Humboldt, passed away Monday, Nov. 25, 2013, at Allen County Regional Hospital in Iola. Patricia was born on April 19, 1939, to Ralph and Marjorie (Colaw) Bond, in Bloomington, Ill.
She was united in marriage to Frank Weiner on Aug. 17, 1955. They made their home at the Chanute Air Force Base, in Rantoul, Ill., where her husband was a jet engine instructor for two years. After completing his military service they moved back to Kansas to help on the Weiner family farm in rural Allen County.
Pat started her nursing career as an aide at Allen County Hospital in Iola. While raising their four children, she earned her nursing degree as an LPN at Neosho County Community College in Chanute. She went back to school to get certificates in food service and nursing home administration. She worked at Pinecrest Nursing Home in Humboldt. She was administrator at Westview Nursing Home in Chanute for several years. She continued to pursue her career in nursing home administration in other area nursing homes.
After retiring from nursing around 1987, she ran a store in Humboldt called the Hodge Podge Shop. She was also an avid reader, devouring several thick books a week. She enjoyed gardening and had a love for four-footed friends. She was also the director of the Humboldt Senior Center for several years,
She was a selfless giver and never said a cross word about anyone.
She battled diabetes for many years and was a long-term breast cancer survivor. Her love of family and community helped to give her the will to persevere through her health issues.
She is survived by her husband; four children, Carol and her husband, Dan Cation, Savonburg, Frank II, Topeka, Beverly and her husband, Larry Headley, Humboldt, and their son, Adam, Osage City, Michael, and his five sons, Sean-Michael, Ethan, Ryan Patrick, Aidan, Polk City, Fla., and Brandon, Spokane, Wash. She also leaves behind her sister, Sue Schovaers and husband Gary, Mead, Wash.; her sister-in-law, Jane Cooley, Chanute; and brother-in-law, Bill, Lee’s Summit, Mo. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
Her mother, father, stepfather, sister Dixie, brother David and brothers-in-law, Dale Weiner and Joe Weiner, preceded her in death.
Visitation will be Friday at Penwell-Gabell Memorial Chapel in Humboldt, from 6 to 8 p.m. The funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Humboldt. Burial will be at 1:30 p.m. at the Catholic cemetery at Walnut. Memorials are suggested to the Diabetes Association and the Allen County Animal Rescue Facility (ACARF) in LaHarpe.
