Opal Maxine Adams, 88, of Garnett died Sunday, June 13, 2010, at Anderson County Hospital Long Term Care Facility in Garnett.
She was born Oct. 6, 1921, in Burns Community, Polk County, Mo., near Bolivar to Fred Olin and Loah Claud (McReynolds) Abel. She attended area schools before graduating high school in Halfway, Mo.
On Nov. 4, 1941, she married Harlan L. “Jack” Adams in Oswego. They lived in California while he was in the service, then lived in Indiana, West Virginia and Washington before moving to rural Lone Elm in 1946. In 1954 they moved to Colorado. They moved to Garnett in 1959.
She was a homemaker and secretary for Adams Construction. She worked for Warner Manufacturing for 17 years after her children were grown.
She was a member of Southern Baptist Church and read the Bible daily. She enjoyed genealogy and sewing.
She is survived by her children, Darlena Lutz and her husband, Richard, Roger and his wife, Phyllis, and Rolena Kennard and her husband, Lewis, all of Garnett, Berdena Kratzberg, Shawnee, Nina Underwood, Olathe, and Edythe Renay Jones and her husband, Lee, Burlington; three sisters, Eva Grace, Springfield, Mo.; Lorine Taylor and her husband Hershel, Strafford, Mo.; and Zona Meadors, Bolivar, Mo.; 17 grandchildren, Gerald and Teena Lutz, Darin and Michele Lutz, Rodney Adams, Brenda Jenelle Adams, Latisha and Tom Hoffman, Roger, Kenneth and Waylon Morse, Bridget and Matt Estell, Adrienne and Joe Kordalski, Angela and Calahn Luster, Tamara Kratzberg, Therese and Paul Rogers, Mark and Jen Underwood and Randy, Adam and Travis Stahl; five stepgrandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; five stepgreat-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
Her husband died Dec. 8, 1996. An infant son, Halbert Lyndle, grandson, Allen Lutz, great-grandson, Anthony Adams, three brothers, Carl, Paul and Wesley B., and four sisters, Vaden Anderson, Lucille Manes, Emma Lee Manes and Bertha Marie Deragowski, died earlier.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Feuerborn Family Funeral Service Chapel in Garnett. Burial will follow in Highland Cemetery in Iola. 
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home in Garnett. Memorials to Maxine Adams Memorial Fund may be left at the funeral home. Condolences may be sent to the family at feuerbornfuneral.com.
