Oleata Hope Hiser, age 88, passed away July 11, 2018, at Greystone Assisted Living, Iola. Oleata was born March 5, 1930, in Joplin, Mo., to Joshua Roberts and Ollie May Rice Roberts.

Oleata graduated in 1948 from the Altoona High School. She worked a few years as a telephone operator.

Oleata and Wayne Hiser were married on June 19, 1949, in Iola.

Oleata was very athletic. She was an avid golfer, she was a cheerleader in high school, and she enjoyed her bowling leagues. Oleata served as a deacon while she attended Iola Presbyterian Church. After their marriage, Oleata and Wayne worked side by side building their farm equipment business, Hiser Implement, a family business. She was a member of the Sorosis Club, she loved to play bridge, she belonged to an Iola book club, and she belonged to The Revelers. Oleata and Wayne loved to travel, traveling to places like Germany, Mexico, England, Holland, Spain, France, Hawaii, Panama Canal, and they took a number of cruises. They enjoyed boating together, especially waterskiing at the Toronto Reservoir. Oleata loved to shop!

Oleata is survived by one daughter, Diana Miller and husband, Allen, Wichita; one sister, Ila Stine, Moran; son-in-law, Steven Garver, Iola; grandchildren, Vicki Garver Smith and husband, Dewayne, Iola, Michael Garver, Iola; great-grandchildren, Benjamin Smith, Iola, Dalton Garver, Iola, and Kristin Garver, Iola; and one great-great-grandson, Lincoln Smith, Iola; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Oleata was preceded in death by her husband, Wayne E. Hiser; parents; two daughters, Sandra K. Garver and Debra E. Hiser; one grandson, David Garver; and three sisters, Alice Pearl Ridgeway, Joy Barney, and Hazel Brown.

A visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday in The Venue at Feuerborn Family Funeral Service, Iola. A funeral service honoring Oleata’s life will be at 10 a.m., Tuesday at Feuerborn Family Funeral Service Chapel, Iola. Burial will follow in Highland Cemetery, Iola.

Memorials are suggested to the Bible Fellowship Church, and may be left with Feuerborn Family Funeral Service, Iola.
