Nancy L. Smith, 65, of Iola, passed away peacefully at her home on Sunday, March 11, 2012, surrounded by her family after a two-year battle with cancer.
Nancy was born Jan. 25, 1947, at Chanute, the daughter of Leonard W. and Ella Mae (Marsh) Colvin. She grew up in Chanute and graduated from Chanute High School in 1965.
On April 16, 1966, Nancy married Galen L. Smith in Chanute. They made their home at rural Moran and later divorced. She moved to Iola five years ago. Nancy worked as a secretary at Litwins, Klein Tool, at Loren Korte’s Agency in Moran and for Paul Porter in Iola until she retired due to health reasons in 2010.
Nancy enjoyed shopping trips with her daughters and her sister, gardening and spending time with her grandchildren. She was a member of the Iola Elks.
Survivors include three daughters, Angela G. Willis and husband, Dan of rural Iola, Amy S. Wilson and husband, Chuck of rural Kincaid, and Amanda L. Baker and husband, Jason of Towanda; one sister, Judy Garver and husband, Elvert “Al” of Monett, Mo.; nine grandchildren, Kristin and Tyler Fehr, Brett Willis, Payton and Trevor Wilson, Abby, Aidan, Ryleigh and Madalynn Baker, two great-great grandchildren, Emalee and Colton Thompson, and a number of nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents and a great-nephew, Cameron Garver.
Visitation is from 6 to 8 o’clock tonight at Waugh-Yokum and Friskel Chapel in Iola.
Services are at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Wesley United Methodist Church in Iola, followed by burial in Highland Cemetery.
Memorials to Allen County Hospice may be left with Waugh-Yokum and Friskel Memorial Chapel of Iola, which is in charge of arrangements.
