Nadine “Deenie” Gies, 85, passed away at her home in Iola on Friday, Sept. 13, 2013. She was born on Sept. 9, 1928, in San Bernardino, Calif., the daughter of Joseph F. and Mabel McGuire Perry Copp. A longtime resident of Scott City, before moving to Iola, she was a homemaker.
She was a member of United Methodist Church in Scott City. Nadine was also a music director of church choirs, Past Worthy Matron, Eastern Star, Girl and Boy Scout leader, EMT participant and was involved in community theater. She was also a member of the Kansas Art Association, Federated Music Club, Scott County Golf Course and was in the VIP Chorus and a women’s quartet.
On May 29, 1947, she married William E. Gies in Topeka. He passed away on Oct. 29, 1991, in Scott City.
Survivors include one son, Bill and Mari Ann Gies, Assaria; five daughters Mary and David Balmer, Inverness, Fla., Susie and Gary Greve, Iola, Kathy and Larry Hoeme, Scott City, Beth and Ron Hess, Scott City, and Chris and Jay Wagner, Yukon, Okla.; 11 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, one infant son, and one infant great-grandson.
Funeral services were Thursday at the United Methodist Church, Scott City. The Rev. Dennis Carter was the officiate.
Memorials may be made to the Scott County EMTs and left in the care of Price and Sons Funeral Home. Interment was at Scott County Cemetery, Scott City.
