Funeral services for Iolan Mike Farris, 63, whose death Friday, March 26, 2010, was announced in Tuesday’s Register, will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Feuerborn Family Funeral Service Chapel in Colony. Burial will follow at the Colony Cemetery. The family will greet friends prior to the service at 9 o’clock at the funeral home.
He was born on Jan. 11, 1947, in Iola, the son of Eugene and Flora (Fowler) Farris. He grew up in the Colony area and was graduated from Colony High School. He attended Allen County Community College, Emporia State University and Pittsburg State University.
He earned a mortuary science degree and served in the armed forces.
As a young man, Farris worked at the family businesses, a funeral home and drug store in Colony.
After college, he moved to Kansas City, where he worked at Diebel’s on the Plaza for many years. In the early 1990s, he moved to Iola. He worked the past 12 years at Iola Pharmacy.
He was a member of the Austin Healy Car Club in Kansas City. He enjoyed working on most anything mechanical and was a technical volunteer for Iola Community Theatre.
He is survived by his cousin, Nancy Kuns and her husband, Sam, Wichita, their children Terri Mitchell and husband Steve of Des Moines, Iowa, and their six children; his aunt, Julia Fowler of California, Mo.; and many friends.
