MaryRose McGowan, 86, Iola, died Wednesday, May 9, 2012, at Windsor Place in Iola.
MaryRose was born March 10, 1926, in Hooven, Ohio, the daughter of John William and Margaret T. (Craig) Taylor. She grew up in Ohio, Indianapolis, Ind., and Argo, Ill., where she met her future husband.
On Aug. 30, 1941, MaryRose married Robert J. McGowan at Greenville, Ken. Following his time in the service, they made their home in the Chicago area. After they retired, they moved to Iola in 1989. He died Oct. 15, 1999.
MaryRose was an artist who enjoyed reading, collecting dolls, listening to country music and spending time with family.
She was a member of the Iola Church of Christ.
She is survived by four daughters, Colleen McGowan, Ill., Janice Evans, Kan., Sharon Evans and husband George, Ill., and Carol McGowan, Ind.; five sons, Willard McGowan and wife Nancy, Mo., Doyle McGowan and wife Darcy, Mich., Robert McGowan and wife JoAnn, Ill., James McGowan and wife Irene, Ill., and Scott McGowan and wife Christine, Ill.; 22 grandchildren; and 25 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two grandchildren, David Seal and MaryRose McGowan.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Waugh-Yokum & Friskel Chapel in Iola, where the family will receive friends an hour prior to the service. Burial will be in Highland Cemetery, Iola.
