MaryJeanne Campbell Percy passed away on Thursday, Sept. 5, 2019, at her home in Phoenix, Ariz., surrounded by her family.

MaryJeanne was born in Iola on Oct. 8, 1928, to Dr. Robert Finley Campbell and Mary Kathrine Hays Campbell. She spent her childhood in Iola, being raised in the family home along with her younger brother, Robert “Bobby” Campbell.

MaryJeanne was a 1946 graduate of Iola High School where she was involved in Glee Club Vocal Music, Latin Club, Minnie Mustangs Pep Squad and was on the cabinet of Girl Reserves Religious Club. Following graduation, she attended the University of Kansas to study music.

On Aug. 29, 1947, she was married to Oscar Latimer Percy and they moved to Tempe, Ariz., where her husband finished his degree at Arizona State University. Following his graduation in 1951, they moved to Kansas City where they lived until December 1959. At that time they moved to Phoenix, Ariz., where her husband was employed as an engineer. They resided in Arizona from that time on.

MaryJeanne was a homemaker, and while raising her four sons she also was very involved in dog shows and raised several champion cocker spaniels. MaryJeanne loved her family, her pets, music and sports, and was an avid reader She was quite a fisherwoman, too, and enjoyed fishing with her husband and sons, as well as with her husband’s family on their annual trips back to Kansas for the Percy family reunions until ill health eventually prevented their travel.

Her husband, Oscar Percy, passed away on Sept. 14, 2018, after 71 years of marriage, but her sons live quite close by and had taken care of her at her home since then.

MaryJeanne Campbell Percy is survived by three sons, Robin Scott Percy, Christopher Gene Percy and Daniel Robert Percy, all of Phoenix; two grandchildren, Jessica Marie Percy Deelstra and her husband, Michael Deelstra, and Jeremy Ryan Percy; two great-grandchildren, Riley Deelstra and Katie Mae Deelstra; brother-inlaw Claude Orris Percy of Shawnee Mission; two sisters-in-law, Joan Kathleen Burke Percy of Manhattan and Jeanne Ann Masterson Percy of Iola and by many nieces and nephews.

MaryJeanne was preceded in death by her husband, Oscar Percy; her oldest son, Michael Kirk Percy; by her father, Dr. Robert Finley Campbell; her mother, Mary Kathrine Hays Campbell; father-in-law Mack (Michael) Joseph (Gervais) Percy; her mother-in-law, Pearl Pansy Latimer Percy; four brothers-in-law, Robert John Percy, Carl Leslie Percy, Eugene Mack Percy and William Glen “Curly” Percy; two sisters-in-law, Ramona Zoe Riepen Percy and Margaret Yvonne Dreher Percy; and one nephew, Thomas M. Percy.

Funeral services for MaryJeanne Campbell Percy are provided by Dignity Memorial: Advantage Funeral and Cremation in Phoenix, Ariz. A Celebration of Life service will be held by the family at a later date.
