Mary Lou Mahan, 86, passed away Saturday, Dec. 17, 2016, at Emporia Presbyterian Manor.
Mary Lou Beal was born July 10, 1930 in rural LaHarpe, the daughter of Owen and Mabel Tennant (Robenstein) Beal. She graduated from LaHarpe High School in 1948.
She was joined in marriage to Jack William Mahan on May 31, 1953, in LaHarpe. To this union, two children, Melody and Arick. Mary was a homemaker for her family, babysat, and ran a bait shop from the home and also a greenhouse in Hartford.
She was a member of Hartford United Methodist Church.
She will be forever remembered by her daughter, Melody Annette (William) Nienstedt, Hartford; a son, Arick Lee (Judy) Mahan, Neosho Rapids; five grandchildren, Heather Schultz, Ashley Nehls, Justin Mahan, Michael Mahan and Ericka Pomerening, and six great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Jack; two sisters, Dorothy Beal and Helen (Beal) Aiken; and two brothers, Lawrence Beal and Donald Beal.
A funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at United Methodist Church in Hartford. Family will receive friends from 6 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at the Jones VanArsdale Funeral Home in Lebo.
