Mary Jean Langton, 53, of Moran died Thursday, Sept. 9, 2010, at Neosho Memorial Regional Medical Center in Chanute.
She was born July 8, 1957, in Yates Center, to Tommy Kenneth “Buck” and Verle M. (Williams) Rhodes. She grew up in and attended school in Cherryvale where she participated in scouts, 4-H and played girl’s softball. She also delivered the Parsons Sun as a junior high student.
She worked as an emergency medical technician in the Moran area and trained as an electrician.
On Jan. 2, 1981, she gave birth to Joshua Neal Hammond.
She worked as an over-the road truck driver before owning her own trucking company, “Wanna Be Trucking.”
She raised and showed confirmation goats as “Wanna Be Farms” supplying the efforts of the “Feed Africa” program.
On Oct. 3, 2001, she married Jim Langton. She was a member of Savonburg Evangelical Church.
She is survived by her husband of the home; her mother, Verle M. Rhodes, Moran; a son, Josh Hammond, Kansas City, Mo.; a step-daughter, Miranda Langton, Buna, Texas; two stepsons, Nathan and Eric Langton, California; two sisters, Peggy Gragg and her husband, Mike, Grove, Okla., and Sue Rhodes, Morgantown, N.C.; a brother, Roy D. “Stub” Rhodes and his wife, Lu Ann, Cherryvale; and her dog, Boo.
Her father, Tommy Kenneth “Buck” Rhodes, died in July. An infant brother, Kenneth Ray Rhodes, also died earlier.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Waugh-Yokum & Friskel Memorial Chapel in Iola.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
