Marcelle Lavera Simmons, 95, Iola, died Friday, Sept. 11, 2015, at Windsor Place in Iola.
Marcelle was born June 11, 1920, in Iola, the daughter of Alva L. “Jack” and Gladys M. (Burgess) Stark. When she was a child, the family moved to Ottawa where she lived until 1996 when she returned to Iola and resided at Windsor Place.
She attended schools in Ottawa and was a member of the Methodist Church there. She married Charles “Bud” Simmons and later divorced.
She is survived by several cousins; a niece, Linda Norris, Copperas Cove, Texas; a nephew, Ronald Tompkins, Kansas City, Kan.; and her cousin, Nancy Joan Willis, who looked after her since she moved back to Iola.
She was preceded in death by her parents, a sister, Maxine Tompkins, and a brother, Alva L. Stark.
Cremation is planned with graveside services at Highland Cemetery in Ottawa at a later date.
Memorials are suggested to Allen County Hospice and may be left with the Waugh-Yokum & Friskel Memorial Chapel of Iola, which is in charge of arrangements.
