Lucy Darlene Cookie Butler, 70, of Iola, died May 16, 2018, after losing her fight with cancer. She fought to the bitter end for those she loved.
Lucy was born April 5, 1948 in Champaign, Ill., to David and Mary (Landreth) Griffet. She was the youngest of four children.
On Nov. 22, 1975, Lucy married Leon C. Butler of Neosho Falls. Combining their families, they had five daughters: Victoria (Steve) Voland, Knob Noster, Mo.; Glenda (Clayton) Sullivan, Knoxville, Tenn.; Ann (Scott) Goddard, Galesburg, Ill.; Christine (Jim) Allison (deceased) and Tammy (Andrew) Wood-Lizer, Garnett.
Lucy had 13 grandchildren: Nicole Peters, Alexis Sullivan, Christopher Weiss, Levi Goddard, Zachary Sullivan, Tasha Goddard, Quentin Sullivan, Kiona Voland, Brandon Goddard, Kyle Wood, Cody Weiss, Jared Sullivan and Seth Sullivan; and 13 great-grandchildren: Kadin, Shelby, Gracee, Kealie, Serenitee (Reni), Kimberly (Kimmie), Brody, Raidyn, Mary Jane, Ladon, Khloe, Lane and Levi Jamison.
Lucy had two brothers, David I. (Buster) Griffet III (deceased) and Roger Griffet, Killeen Texas. She had two sisters, Deloras Townsend, Urbana, Ill., and Diane Gates, Urbana, Ill. She is also survived by her cousin Danny Griffet, Chillicothe, Ill.
Lucy was preceded in death by her parents, brother David and step-daughter Christine.
Midland Cremation Society will be preparing the final arrangements.
A family memorial is planned at a later date. And she was born with fire in her veins.
