M. Louise Schomaker, 94, Iola, died Monday, Nov. 10, 2014, at Windsor Place Nursing Center in Iola.
Louise was born April 1, 1920, in Rich Hill, Mo., the daughter of Henry and Etta (Stark) Wells. Her mother died when she was 3 and she was raised by her grandparents on a farm near Vernon. Louise graduated from Vernon High School. On May 11, 1942, she married Bernard J. Schomaker and they made their home on a farm near Piqua until moving into Piqua to live in 1947. Louise cooked at the grade school in Piqua before operating a day care in her home.
Bernard preceded her in death on June 26, 1989, and in 1991 she moved to the Townhouse West in Iola.
Louise was a member of St. John’s Catholic Church in Iola.
She is survived by two sons, Martin “Marty” Schomaker and wife, Mary, Piqua, and John Schomaker and wife, Betty, El Dorado; two daughters, Joyce Hagerman and husband, Dennis, Garden City, and Mary Young and husband, Darell, Garnett; one sister, Wilma Stolhand, Towanda; 12 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren, and 10 great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by 10 brothers, one sister, a granddaughter, and two great-grandchildren.
The parish rosary will be recited at 10 a.m. Friday at St. John’s Catholic Church in Iola followed by the funeral Mass at 10:30. Burial will follow at St. Martin’s Cemetery in Piqua.
