Louis Sanchez of Humboldt, whose death on Monday and funeral services were published in Wednesday’s Register, was born March 25, 1919, in Schafter, Texas, the son of Casimiro and Vicenta (Montinez) Sanchez. He attended schools in Humboldt.
Louis served his country in the U.S. Army from 1942 to 1945. He participated in the Rome-Arno, North Apennines, Po Valley and GO 40 WD 45 campaigns earning a Good Conduct Medal, World War II Victory Ribbon, EAME Theater Ribbon, three Bronze Service Stars, Bronze Star Medal and a GO 88 Hq. 85th Inf. Div. 44 American Theater Ribbon. He also served in North Africa, Rome, Italy and Germany.
On June 14, 1951, Louis married Francisca Rea in Chanute. She died on Dec. 31, 2000.
He worked at the Monarch Cement Plant in Humboldt for 32 years.
Louis is survived by his children, Santiago R. Sanchez, Casimiro R. Sanchez, Maria F. Smith, Juana I. Huerter, Louis Leonard Sanchez, Ernest Eugene Sanchez and Gerald Edward Sanchez; 17 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; a brother, Salvador Sanchez; and four sisters, Gloria Wynn, Manuela Powell, Esther Royston and Mary Ramirez.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Anita Virginia Sanchez, a granddaughter, a brother and two sisters.
