Linda Kay Walter, 66, Iola, passed away Sunday, Dec. 22, 2013, at her home.
Linda was born July 30, 1947, in St. Joseph, Mo., the daughter of Robert Patrick and Patricia Lea (Adams) Shields and was the oldest of eight children. She moved to Kansas City, Mo., where she graduated from St. Teresa Academy.
In 1966 she married Larry Macha in St. Joseph and in 1975 they moved to Iola. They had two children, Jennifer and Bob. In 1996, Linda married Dr. Earl Walter and the marriage resulted in uniting two families for 17 happy years.
Linda obtained a bachelor’s degree in business management and worked as an office manager. She was a member of St. John’s Catholic Church and the Coterie Club.
She was known for her loving personality and great Christian faith with her life revolving around her family, especially the grandchildren.
Survivors are her husband, Dr. Earl T. Walter, daughter, Jennifer Delich and husband, Bill, Iola; son Robert Macha and wife, Kelly, Iola; two step-daughters, Karen Marie, Overland Park, and Tricia Burmeister, Pittsburg; two stepsons, Duke Walter and wife, Tera, Pittsburg, and Christian Walter and wife, Beth, Lawrence; her parents, Robert “Bob” Shields and Patricia “Pat” Shields, Iola; five brothers, Michael Shields and wife, Denise, Houston, Texas, Tim Shields and wife, Dawn, Cameron, Mo., John Shields, Iola, Richard Shields and wife, Kim, Clinton, Mo., and Robert Shields and wife, Roxy, Paola; two sisters, Mary Weatherman and husband, Neal, Eudora, and Barbara Andrews and husband, Tim, Conway, Ark.; 12 grandchildren, Kaden and Toni Macha, Cassie and Calvin Delich, Stephen and Nick Erickson, Emma Stalnaker, Adam Burmeister, Ivan and Simon Walter, Sydney and Madilynn Walter; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday at St. John’s Parish Hall in Iola.
Funeral mass will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. John’s Catholic Church in Iola.
Memorials are suggested to Allen County Animal Rescue Facility (ACARF) or Allen County Hospice and may be left with Waugh-Yokum & Friskel Memorial Chapel of Iola.
