LaVonne Marie Atteberry, 96, Elsmore, died Friday, April 20, 2012, at Moran Manor in Moran.
LaVonne was born Feb. 17, 1916, in Savonburg, to Eric Leonard and Julia Evalina (Swanson) Carlson. The Carlson family later moved to the Elsmore area where she attended East Liberty Grade School. She graduated from Elsmore High School in 1934 and the School of Cosmetology in Coffeyville in 1936. She worked as a beautician in Parsons until she purchased her own shop in 1937 in Erie, where she worked for 25 years. She loved the outdoors and was an avid gardener. She also enjoyed traveling.
LaVonne married Pem Atteberry at Friends Home Lutheran Church in Savonburg on March 31, 1957. They made their home in Stark, where she had a beauty shop in her home for 27 years.
She was a member of Friends Home Lutheran Church, 50-year member of the Order of Eastern Star in Savonburg and a 50-year member of the Erie Rebekah Lodge. She was also a member of Town and Country Friends, Neosho and Allen County Home Extention Unit. After retiring, she moved back to the Elsmore community.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband; brother, Leonard Carlson; and sister, LaVance Johnson.
She is survived by her sister, LaDelle Cunningham, and numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews and great-great-nieces and great-great-nephews.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Friends Home Lutheran Church in Savonburg. Burial will follow at Elsmore Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to Friends Home Lutheran Church and left with Waugh-Yokum & Friskel Memorial Chapel of Iola, which is in charge of arrangements.
