LaVerne Riley, 77, Iola,, passed away on Thursday, Jan. 5, 2017 at Allen County Regional Hospital.

LaVerne was the third child of 11 children born to Robert and Lucy (Humphrey) Lane. She was born on Feb. 13, 1939, in Cape Giradeau, Mo. As a young girl LaVerne lived in Memphis, Tenn., and St. Louis, Mo. She married Robert Lee Riley on June 11, 1955 in Mississippi. This union was blessed with five children. They initially made their home in St. Louis, later moving to Westphalia in 1972. Following the death of her husband, LaVerne moved to Iola. Throughout her career she worked as a CNA and as an activities director. She worked at Windsor Place in Iola and Lifecare Center in Burlington. LaVerne was a talented artist, working in oil paints. She enjoyed painting pictures and sharing them with friends and family.

LaVerne was preceded in death by her husband, Robert, on Oct. 30, 2009; an infant daughter; and four sisters, Mickey Barlow, Vickey Bruner, Ellen Fulkerson and Ann Conaway.

She is survived by four sons, Rick Riley and wife Norma, Iola, Joe Riley and Megan Plumb, Platte City, Mo., Michael Riley and Jenny Doolittle, Iola, and Brian Riley and Sarah Ortiz, Humboldt; nine grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; six sisters, Ruthie Neuman, Suwanee, Georgia, Bobby Counce, Luka, Miss., Kay Polac, St. Louis, Barbie Eberle, Winchester, Va., Pammy Cloutier, Cummings, Ga., and Cindy Powell, Colony.

 

Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Fellowship Regional Church, Iola. The family will greet friends from 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday at Feuerborn Family Funeral Service, Iola.
