LaVerne C. Barker, 93, of Hutchinson died Sunday, May 16, 2010, at Good Samaritan Center in Hutchinson.
He was born Sept. 12, 1916, in Iola, to Claude and Flossie Jones Barker. He was a graduate of Iola High School and a member of First United Methodist Church in Hutchinson. He was a retired heavy equipment operator for J.H. Shears Construction Company.
On Oct. 1, 1937, he married Erma D. Donald in Fort Scott. She died April 17, 1982. He married Letha Gates on Feb. 14, 1983, in Hutchinson. She died Dec. 9, 2003.
Survivors include a daughter, Patricia D. Hunt, Latham, N.Y.; two grandsons, Kevin Hunt, Mechanicville, N.Y., and Jeffrey Hunt and his wife, Chiloe, Cohoes, N.Y.; three great-grandchildren; and a pet dog, Muffy.
A sister, Delores Allen, died earlier.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at First United Methodist Church in Hutchinson. The Rev. Jeanine Rishel will officiate. Graveside services will be at 3 p.m. Tuesday at LaHarpe Cemetery.
