Former Iola resident Mary Kathryn “Kay” Jackson, 87, of Augusta died today, Feb. 23, 2010, at Lake Point Nursing Home in Augusta.
She was born March 31, 1922, in Gladbrook, Iowa, the daughter of J. Andrew and Zella “Pudge” (Horton) Sebbert. The family moved to Humboldt and she graduated from high school there.
She was a registered nurse and received her degree from St. Joseph’s Nursing School in Fort Scott.
On March 5, 1944, she married Harry L. Jackson in Fort Scott. They lived in several communities before moving to Iola in 1966. She worked as a registered nurse mainly in nursing homes until her retirement. He died June 23, 1996.
When her health failed she moved to Augusta to be near family. She was a member of Grace Lutheran Church and Red Hat Society.
She is survived by two sons, Bob and his wife, Marsha, and Bill and his wife, Pat, and a daughter, Jean Shetlar and her husband, Lloyd, all of Augusta; a brother, Gary Sebbert and his wife, Judy, Muscatine, Iowa; two sisters, Arlys Sakata, Topeka, and Shirley Breiner, Humboldt; nine grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.
Two brothers, Jack and Bob Sebbert, and a sister, Jane Wilkerson, died earlier.
The family will receive friends from 2 to 3 p.m. Thursday at Waugh-Yokum & Friskel Memorial Chapels in Iola.
Graveside services will be at 3:30 p.m. Thursday in Mount Hope Cemetery in Humboldt.
