Kathryn L. Hammond, 77, of Moran died Tuesday, March 22, 2011, at Chanute Healthcare Center.
She was born Aug. 20, 1933, in Elsmore, to William Leon and Gertrude Mae (Rawlings) Mechnig. She grew up in Elsmore until the family moved to a farm near Westphalia.
She was married to Raymond Lloyd Hammond in June of 1950, and they had seven children. She had made her home in Moran most of her life and worked as a seamstress at H.L. Miller & Son Dress Factory in Iola for almost 25 years.
She is survived by her children, Ronald K. Rierson, Augusta, Erwin Keith Hammond and his wife, Cheryl, Yates Center, Connie R. Houk, Moran, Curtis D. Hammond and his wife, Karen, Fritch, Texas, Pamela J. Mann and her husband, Gary, Pryor, Okla., Michael W. Hammond and his wife, Renda, Kincaid, and Lloyd E. Hammond and his companion, Reggie, Elsmore; her mother, Gertrude Mechnig, Garnett; a brother, Bill Mechnig, Eufaula, Okla.; three sisters, Loretta Helt, Lincoln, Neb., Jane Waggoner, Wichita, and Susie Croul, Corona del Mar, Calif.; longtime friend, Floyd Ohmie, Chanute; 16 grandchildren; and 25 great-grandchildren.
Her father, William L. Mechnig, a grandson, Jerry L. Houk, and a half sister, Erma Eileen Thomas, died earlier.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Waugh-Yokum & Friskel Memorial Chapel in Iola. Chaplain Lloyd W. Houk will officiate. Burial will be in Moran Cemetery.
