Jenive June Ham Peterson, 91, of Humboldt died Sunday, Aug. 1, 2010, at Neosho Memorial Regional Medical Center in Chanute.
She was born June 12, 1919, in Kennewick, Wash., to David Vanburen and Alta Mae (Keller) Ham. She grew up in Bourbon and Crawford counties where she attended one-room schools, including Independence School next to Rosedale Cemetery.
On Dec. 24, 1936, she married Jack I. M. Peterson in Lamar, Mo. He died June 19, 1995.
Before her marriage she worked in the HUD office in the Crawford County Courthouse. After marriage she was an Avon representative for more than 30 years.
She was a member of Humboldt United Methodist Church, Hoe and Hope Garden Club, Humboldt Women’s Club, Golden Rod Chapter No. 163 Order of the Eastern Star, Order of the White Shrine of Jerusalem and Social Order of Beauceant. She had served as a presiding officer in most of the groups. She had been president of the Parent Teacher Association at Washington Elementary School in Humboldt three times.
She enjoyed bowling, swimming, walking, traveling, reading and visiting.
She is survived by two sons, Leland Merle and his wife, Anita, and Richard J. and his wife, Cynthia Bouwmans; a daughter, Judith Peterson and her husband, Bruce Johansen; grandsons, Leland and his wife, Shonda, and Michael and his wife, Michelle; a brother, Dale Ham and his wife, Fern; and great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
An infant son, Norlan Dale, three sisters, Eva Talbot, Doris Marie Wright and Naomi Guss, and two brothers, Martin V. and Jewell N. Ham, died earlier.
Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Friday at Humboldt United Methodist Church. Burial will follow in Rosedale Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 7 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Penwell-Gabel Humboldt Chapel.
