Julia Bellsora (Ballard) Welling, 93, died Monday, Feb. 28, 2011, at Healthwin Specialized Care Facility in South Bend, Ind.
She was born June 23, 1917, near Welda, to George and Nora (Johnson) Ballard. Julia graduated from Lone Elm High School at age 16, attended Pittsburg State Teachers College and was employed as the teacher of a one-room school in the Welda community by age 18.
On Oct. 5, 1944, she married Arthur I. Welling in Logansport, Ind. He is deceased.
She is survived by five children and their families, James and Judith Welling, Mishawaka, Ind., William and Julie Welling, New Carlisle, Ind., Janene and Robert Edwards, Granger, Ind., Carol and David Stuart, Wichita, and Dale and Beth Welling, Troy, Mich. Julia also considered her sister Maxine Lynch’s children part of her family after Maxine’s death in 1978. They are Sheryll and Dennis Harper, Elkhart, Ind., and Judy Baker, Chanute.
Funeral services and burial were March 5 in South Bend.
