Judith C. Thompson, 70, of rural Iola, passed away Thursday, May 28, 2015, surrounded by her family at home.
Judy was born Oct. 14, 1944, in Stillwater, Okla., the daughter of Bernard and Elenor (Longan) Ritter. She grew up in Stillwater and graduated from Stillwater High School in 1962. She married H.E. Holinsworth and the family moved to Humboldt in 1973. She and H.E. later divorced.
Judy worked as an accountant in the area until opening her own firm, J & J Accounting, in Humboldt in 1977. She has been serving businesses and individuals in the area for over 35 years.
She and Freddie Leon Thompson were married in 1997 and they made their home at Iola. He preceded her in death on May 27, 2015.
Her memberships include Kansas Public Accountants Assn., Salem United Methodist Church, Humboldt Chamber of Commerce, Ladies of the Elks in Iola, and the American Legion Auxiliary. Judy served eight years as a councilwoman for the City of Humboldt and two terms as mayor. She had also served on the Consumer Advisory Panel for Kansas Gas and Electric.
Survivors are her two children, Steve Holinsworth and wife, Barnie, Pittsburg, and Cindy Holinsworth and Lora Hunt, Humboldt; two stepsons: Kent Thompson and wife, Susan, rural LaHarpe, and Kurt Thompson and wife, Cheryl, Springfield, Mo.; one sister, Diana Clarke of Stillwater, Okla.; five grandchildren: Shannon (Andrew) Patterson, Iola, Lauren and Paige Holinsworth, Eureka, Mo., and Aliza and Alivia Benedict, Pittsburg; four stepgrandchildren: Kenna (Thompson) Chesnut, Springfield, Mo., Kyler Thompson, Pittsburg, Mia and Ami Thompson, Springfield, Mo.; and one great-granddaughter, Blayke Patterson.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Leon, and brother Gary Ritter.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday, at Waugh-Yokum & Friskel Chapel in Iola.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m., Tuesday, at Waugh-Yokum & Friskel Chapel in Iola. Burial will be at Moran Cemetery, Moran.
