John David Scheibmeir, 65, Bernice, Okla., died Sunday, March 29, 2015, at Freeman Hospital in Joplin.
John was born June 28, 1949, in Iola, the son of Lloyd F. and Pearl M. (Henry) Scheibmeir. He grew up in Piqua and served in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War. He was stationed aboard the USS Ranger and the USS Ticonderoga.
John was married to Patricia Hensley and they made their home in Humboldt. They had a daughter, Michele. John operated heavy equipment and did a lot of excavation projects along with oil field work.
John was later married to Denise Rugg and they lived in Garnett where he operated J & D Contractors.
John retired and moved to Bernice on Grand Lake where he could fish, enjoy woodworking, and entertain his grandchildren. Whether it was serving on a city council or coaching baseball he stayed active in the community in which he lived. John was a member and officer of the Bernice V.F.W. Post No. 2592.
He is survived by a daughter, Michele Martin and husband John, Louisburg; three brothers, Ron and wife Patti, Topeka, Jerry and wife Yvette, Iola, and Kenny and wife Cyndi, Yates Center; two sisters, Susie Sicka and husband Warren, Fayetteville, Ark., and Judie Laws, Yates Center; and two grandchildren, Ty and Trent Martin
Cremation has taken place. A memorial graveside service will be at 11 a.m. Monday at St. Martin’s Catholic Cemetery in Piqua. Visitation with the family and lunch will follow at the Piqua Knights of Columbus Hall.
