John Johnson Larney, 73, Iola, died Friday, March 20, 2015, at Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice in Wichita.
John was born July 21, 1941, in Little Axe, Okla., located in Cleveland County, the son of John and Annie (Johnson) Larney. He graduated from high school in Chilocco, Okla., where he learned the printing trade. After graduation he moved to Iola and worked for Norman Printing for 44 years before retiring.
He was married to Betty Fosdick on July 25, 1970.
John was an avid Oklahoma Sooner football fan. He also enjoyed coaching and refereeing soccer, fishing, riding his bike and collecting golf balls and Griswold iron skillets.
He was a member of the Seminole Nation of Oklahoma.
Betty, his wife of 44 years, survives, as do two sons, Jason, Iola, and Joshua and wife Samatha, Gas; a sister, Ida Ataddlely of Shawnee, Okla.; a half-brother, Simon Larney, Konawa, Okla.; a half-sister, Shirley Walters, of Oklahoma; four grandchildren, Zeph, Micaiah, Keaton and Konner; his mother-in-law, June Fosdick, Iola; and two aunts, Fannie Hernandez and JoAnn Carney.
He was preceded in death by four sisters, Linda Bear, Rachael Bear, Johnny Mae Alford and Sally Faxico.
Funeral services will be at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at the Waugh-Yokum & Friskel Memorial Chapel with burial in Highland Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
