Joe Giacoma, Jr., 89, Chanute, passed away on Monday, Feb. 25, 2019, at Kansas Heart Hospital in Wichita. Joe was born on June 30, 1929, in Girard, the son of Joe Sr. and Jennie (Cena) Giacoma. Joe graduated from Arma High School and went on to receive his bachelor’s degree from Pittsburg State University. On Nov. 14, 1953, Joe married Patty Picht in Colorado Springs, Colo.

Joe served his country in the United States Army.  He was a hard worker and was an insurance agent for many years. He later became a real estate broker and started his own business, Wagon Wheel Realty. He enjoyed visiting with friends at McDonalds.  Joe was very proud of his family and they were his world. He was truly a bright light in our lives. Joe was a member of Cedar Masonic Lodge No. 103, Fort Scott Scottish Rite, KCCH, Pittsburg Mirza Shrine, Chanute Mirza Shrine MG Unit, American Legion Post  No. 170 and VFW Post No. 1654. He was a past commander of the American Legion.  

His wife, Patty Giacoma, survives, as do children, Teresa Dawes and husband Mike, Chanute, Jennie Hasty and husband Joe, Chanute, Peggy Smith, Iola, Angie Bollinger and husband Reggie, Pittsburg,  and Tina Austin and husband Mike of Winfield; grandchildren and great-grandchildren, Lacey and Katie Dawes; Becky and John Clements (Ty, Trent and Reese); Beth and Kaleb Terlip (Kylar, Kal, Bristol, Brinkley and Quin): Julie and Brett Luttrell (Owen, Jake, and Joe); Vandy Hasty; Holly and Trenton Ebersole; Emma Hottinger; Lance Austin; and Ally and Mathew Bollinger.

Joe was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Lucille Anderson, sons-in-law, Mike Smith and Marty Pannell and granddaughter Amanda Hasty. 

Cremation has been requested. The family will hold a private memorial service at a later date. Online condolences may be left at www.countrysidefh.com. The family suggests memorials to be made  to American Kidney Fund and may be left with or mailed to the funeral home. Arrangements have been entrusted to Countryside Funeral Home, 101 N. Highland, Chanute, KS 66720.
