Jim H. Turley, 82, of Kansas City died Wednesday, July 28, 2010, at Kansas City Hospice House in Kansas City, Mo.
He was born Oct. 7, 1927, in Hopkins County, Texas, to William Lawson and Linnie Ellen (Tate) Turley. When he was three weeks old the family moved to Allen County. He graduated from Moran High School in 1945 and joined the U.S. Marine Corps serving during World War II.
On April 10, 1948, he married Lola Jean Cline. They made their home in Iola where he attended Iola Junior College. They moved to Kansas City where he worked for Cudahay Packing Plant before going to work for Delco Battery in Olathe. He retired from Delco and while working there served as a Union Steward for United Auto Workers.
In his younger years, he excelled in basketball and later in life became an avid fisherman and hunter.
He is survived by his wife of the home; two sons, Mark, Gardner, and Rick, Parkville, Mo.; a daughter, Karen Kay Corbett, Albuquerque, N.M.; a sister, Marjorie Carter, St. James, Mo.; six grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Four brothers and five sisters died earlier.
Family and friends will gather at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Waugh-Yokum & Friskel Memorial Chapel in Iola to leave for graveside services at 11 o’clock in the LaHarpe Cemetery.
