Jean L. Morris, 74, of Newton, formerly of Iola, died Tuesday, April 13, 2010, at Via Christi Regional Medical Center St. Francis Campus in Wichita.
She was born Oct. 2, 1935, in Iola, to Arthur and Louise (Thurman) Lilly. She grew up in Iola and attended Iola schools.
In 1954, she married David Sherrill. They made their home in Iola. They had three daughters before the marriage ended.
On April 21, 1973, she married Albert “Bud” Morris. They have made their home in Newton for 32 years.
She enjoyed cooking, reading, visiting with friends and caring for her dog and cat, Cupcake and Tasha.
When she lived in Iola, she attended Trinity United Methodist Church.
She is survived by her husband of the home; three daughters, Melinda Wymore and her husband John, Gas, Debra LeGrande and her husband George, Welda, and Gloria Sherrill of the home, her caregiver in recent years; a sister, Mary Eagle, Bonner Springs; five grandchildren, David Kinzle, Karen Jones, Samantha Hall, Kimberly LeGrande and John Wymore; and 12 great-grandchildren.
Two grandsons, Stephen and Michael Wymore, and three great-grandchildren died earlier.
She will lie in state from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday and Saturday at the Waugh-Yokum & Friskel Memorial Chapels in Iola for friends and family to call at their convenience.
Cremation will follow.
Private family inurnment will be in Iola’s Highland Cemetery at a later date.
