Iola native James Leroy Shapel, 82, Wichita, passed away Monday, Nov. 2, 2015.
He was born in Iola to Philip and Fannie Mae (Looney) Shapel, and was an Iola High School graduate.
He was in the U.S. Army and was a Korean War veteran. He worked as a plumber in the construction business for most of his life.
He is survived by his wife, Barbara (Forshee) Shapel, of the home; children Philip Shapel, Wichita, and Theresa Startzma, Valley Center; grandchildren Mistie Vaughn, Marisa McNeil, Shaun Shapel, Jesse Shapel and Jeremy Shapel; great-grandchildren Danny Anderson, Garrett O’Hara and Sophia Vaughn; sister Phyllis (Shapel) Bullard, Marion, S.C.; and many other family and friends.
He is preceded in death by his parents Philip and Fannie Shapel.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Kansas Veteran’s Cemetery, 1208 N. College, Winfield.
