Jack L. McGrew, 84, of Iola died today, Feb. 26, 2010, at Windsor Place Nursing Center in Iola.
He was born July 19, 1925, in Gas, the son of O.C. and Frankie L. (Forrester) McGrew. He graduated from Iola High School in 1943 and from K.C. Drafting School. He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps from 1943 to 1946.
On Feb. 10, 1951, he married Shirley P. Wright in Iola. They made their home in Iola.
He worked for Cyrus Truck Line, LeHigh Portland Cement Company and retired from the City of Iola after 19 years of employment. After retiremen he drove an activities bus for USD 257 for 10 years.
He was a member of Calvary United Methodist Church in Iola and Iola Lions Club.
He is survived by his wife of the home; two children, Bob and his wife, Nancy, Newport Beach, Calif., and Ruth Vincent and her husband, Jack, Iola; three granddaughters, Kristi Bettega and her husband, Chris, Pittsburg, Jana Garver, Iola, and Dr. Megan McGrew, Kansas City, Mo.; and one great-grandchild.
Three siblings, Shirley Menzie, Florice (Burke) Ford and Gerald McGrew, died earlier.
Cremation has taken place.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Calvary United Methodist Church in Iola, where the family will greet friends 30 minutes prior to services. The Rev. Gene McIntosh will officiate. Inurnment will be in Highland Cemetery in Iola.
