J.H. Truitt Jr., 87, of Iola died Thursday, Dec. 8, 2011, at Iola Nursing Center.
He was born Feb. 21, 1924, in Tuckerman, Ark., to Hubert and Ida (Goins) Truitt Sr. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.
On March 17, 1945, he married Nila Russell. They made their home in Arkansas until moving to Kansas in 1952. In 1960, they made their home in Iola. He worked with dairy cattle most of his life and was employed by Strickler Dairy in Iola for a number of years. He later worked at McDonald’s Restaurant until ill health forced his retirement.
He was a member of the Church of Christ in Iola.
He is survived by his wife; a son, Gary, Russell; a daughter, Phyllis Truitt, Springdale, Ark.; a sister, Leola Woodruff, Tuckerman; and three grandchildren.
Funeral services will be at 3 p.m. Saturday at the Waugh-Yokum & Friskel Memorial Chapel in Iola. Phillip Crown will officiate. Visitation will follow the service.
Graveside services will be in Evening Shade Cemetery in Sharp County, Ark.
