Howard W. Baker, 88, of rural Moran died Sunday, Jan. 17, 2010, at Moran Manor Nursing Center.
He was born Sept. 9, 1921, in rural Moran, the son of Ernest and Bess (Hunting) Baker. He grew up on a farm near Moran.
On June 24, 1945, he married Dorothy J. Ericson in Friends Home Lutheran Church in Savonburg. They always made their home on a farm. He was a member of Moran Presbyterian Church. He enjoyed reading, listening to music and attending his grandchildren’s ball games.
He is survived by his wife of the home; four children, Linda Olen and her husband, Ken, Farmington, Mich., Greg and his wife, Jeanette, Concord, Calif., John and his wife, Lydia, Iola, and Joseph W. and his wife, Alice, Dallas, Ga.; five grandchildren, Jessica and Mark Meredith, Justin and Maria Baker and Jesse Baker; and two stegrandchildren, Shannon Knause and Billie Jo Parrish.
A brother, Harold E., died earlier.
Cremation has taken place.
Memorial services will be at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at Waugh-Yokum and Friskel Memorial Chapels in Iola. The Revs. Susan Rosenbaum and Connie Cox will officiate.
