Helen Marie Dingus Stewart, 96, Iola, passed way Tuesday, June 30, 2015, at Windsor Place in Iola.
Helen was born Feb. 26, 1919, in Mound City, and moved to Blue Mound while in grade school. She finished her remaining years of grade school in Blue Mound.
Helen married Vernon Dean Stewart in 1935. They moved to the farm and started farming in 1941. They lived three miles east of Bayard until retirement in 1988. At that time they moved to Bronson. In 1998, they moved to Iola.
Helen is survived by one daughter, Mary Ellen Price and husband, Melvin, Iola; one son, Ivy Eugene Stewart and wife, Cheryl, Cypress, Texas; six grandchildren, Ralene Davis and husband, Mark, Sedan, David Eugene Price and wife, Holly, Miami, Okla., Kim Skinner and husband, Mark, Wellsville, Bonnie Powell and husband, Robert, Jr., Iola, Diana Adler, Brookfield, Mo., and Brenda Mandi and husband, Noel, Houston, Texas; 17 great-grandchildren and numerous great-great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Vernon Dean Stewart in 2000, her sister Nellie May Dingus in 1911, her father William Schnee Dingus in 1921 (when Helen was two years old), her mother Bertha Hattie Eck Dingus in 1945, her brother James Allen Dingus, sister-in-law Cosma Cooper Dingus, niece Barbara A. Dingus Janes, and her great-great-granddaughter Ryenne Hicks.
Visitation will be from 2 to 4 p.m., Sunday, at Waugh-Yokum & Friskel Chapel in Iola.
Funeral service will be at 2 p.m., Monday, at Moran Baptist Church in Moran. Burial will be at Bronson Cemetery.
