Helen Spurgeon, 76, of LaHarpe died Sunday, Dec. 5, 2010, at Via Christi Regional Medical Center St. Francis Campus in Wichita.
She was born Feb. 6, 1934, in Marienthal, to Martin John and Basilia (Herman) Kessler. She grew up in central Colorado.
Helen married Leslie Morgan and they made their home in Williamsburg, Colo. They had seven children before he died in 1962.
On Jan. 6, 1963, she married Clarence E. Spurgeon Sr. in Garden City. They made their home in Colorado most of their married life before moving to LaHarpe five years.
She was a homemaker who liked doing all types of crafts including ceramics, crocheting, sewing and quilting.
She is survived by her husband of the home; nine children, Ollie Lackey and her husband, Albert, Amarillo, Texas, Leslie Morgan and his wife, Crystal, Iola, Naomi Lawrence and her husband, Eddy, Raton, N.M., Paul Morgan, LaHarpe, Rosemary Fishman and her husband, Mark, Arlington, Texas, Lyla Bentley and her husband, Jack, Whitehall, Ark., Clarence Spurgeon Jr., Verona, Mo., Wanda Holland and her husband, Ralph, LaHarpe, and Bonnie Dorsey and her companion, Ollie Kirven, Pampa, Texas; 30 grandchildren; and 30 great-grandchildren; three brothers, Phillip Kessler and Al Kessler, Rockvale, Colo., and Virgil Kessler, Ozark, Ark.; and two sisters, Bernadine Jones, Charlotte, N.C., and Joan Worthern, Canon City, Colo.
A son, Ulysses S. Morgan, two sisters and three brothers died earlier.
Visitation will be from 2 to 3 p.m. Wednesday at Waugh-Yokum and Friskel Memorial Chapel in Iola. Cremation will follow.
