Helen D. Compston, 88, Iola, passed away Tuesday, June 2, 2015, at Allen County Regional Hospital.
Helen was born Dec. 29, 1926, in Lenapah, Okla., the daughter of Ansel and Fern (Schaub) Langworthy. She grew up in Lenapah and married Norman B. “Whitey” Compston on Dec. 2, 1943 in Nowata, Okla. They made their home in Leavenworth, Delaware, Okla., Humboldt and Springfield, Ill., following his work. When he retired in 1985, they moved to the farm home in Lenapah. In 2001, they moved to Iola to be near family. He preceded her in death Dec. 2, 2010.
Helen was a homemaker who enjoyed gardening, sewing and crochet. She was a member of Ladies of Elks, National Street Rods Assn. and Model A Club.
Survivors are her six children: Norma Wilson and husband Jack, Bronson, JoAnn Squire and husband Stanley, Wichita, Jackie Clark and husband Willie, Springfield, Ill., Marilyn Henn and husband Duane, Kimberling City, Mo., Janet Korte and husband Loren, Humboldt, and Don Compston and wife Laura, Waxahachie, Texas; 20 grandchildren; 38 great-grandchildren; and seven great-great-grandchildren, with one on the way.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, daughter Donna Rae Compston, granddaughter Rebecca Ann Compston, sisters Mildred and Mary Lou and brother Billy.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Waugh-Yokum and Friskel Chapel in Iola.
Graveside service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Mount Washington Cemetery in Lenapah, Okla.
