Helen Louise Burton, 76, of Independence died Thursday, Oct. 27, 2011, at Mercy Hospital in Independence.
She was born Jan. 23, 1935, in Iola, to Arthur Dean and Goldie Leora (Vest) Mangus. She grew up in Iola and graduated from the Iola High School.
Helen had lived in Independence since 1980. She worked at several different restaurants in Independence as a cook. She also worked at Dana Corporation formally ACC where she retired.
Survivors include a daughter, Leora and her husband, Fred Cox, Independence; stepmother, Nora Casey Mangus, Independence; a brother, Art and his wife, Wanda Mangus, Bay Town, Texas; a sister, Deloris Wilson, Coffeyville; two grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Potts Chapel in Independence with the Rev. Ginny Davis officiating. Burial will be in the Gas Cemetery under the direction of the Potts Chapel in Independence.
Visitation will be from 10:00 to 11 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home in Independence.
