Harold V. Lundine, 93, of Iola died Sunday, April 10, 2011, at Tara Gardens in Iola.
He was born April 28, 1917, in Munich, N.D., to Henry and Josephine (Smith) Lundine. He grew up in and attended school in Humboldt. He went to Civilian Conservation Corps prior to serving four years with the U.S. Army during World War II.
On Aug. 2, 1941, he married Florine A. Smith at Camp Robinson, Ark. Following his honorable discharge from the Army, they made their home in Iola. He worked for the U.S. Postal Service from 1945 until he retired as a mail carrier in 1977. She died Dec. 24, 2006.
He memberships include National Association of Retired Federal Employees, First Baptist Church and American Legion. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and doing yard work. A highlight in his life in recent years was being a part of the Kansas Honor Flight for WWII veterans to Washington D.C. in 2008 and 2009.
He is survived by a daughter, Becky Walker, Iola; a daughter-in-law, Roberta Bradford, Topeka; two grandsons, Thad Lundine and his wife, Deseree, Nevada, Mo., and Tyler Lundine and his wife, Jenny, Beloit; and four great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a son, Leon, grandson, Lance Lundine, three sisters, Joan Clements, Shirley Ericson and Elizabeth Whitcomb, and four brothers, Stanley Lundine, John Lundine, Elmer Nickell Jr. and Tom Nickell.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the Waugh-Yokum and Friskel Memorial Chapel in Iola.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. The Rev. Dave McGullion will officiate. Burial will be in Highland Cemetery in Iola.
