Harold Leon Barnett
1927-2011
Harold Barnett, 84, Humboldt, died Thursday, Dec. 29, 2011 at the Chanute Health Care Center in Chanute, KS.
He was born in Leanna on Nov. 22, 1927, the son of Lewis Dewey Barnett and Cecile (Jones) Barnett. He graduated from Humboldt High School in in 1945. After graduation, he served in the United States Army Signal Corps during the Korean War. He was united in marriage to his wife of 61 years, Anita Ann (Bunch) Barnett, in April 1950 in Paola.
He was a farmer, master carpenter, electronics technician and worked at Monarch Cement Company as a power plant operator. An avid outdoorsman, he greatly enjoyed hunting and fishing.
His wife survives, as does a sister, Jean Webb, Plattsburg, Mo.. He has five children, Leonard Barnett and Linda O’Connor, Iola, Mavis and Alan Ford, Imperial, Mo., Lora and John May, Humboldt, Lorence and Sandy Barnett, Humboldt, and Earl and Tina Barnett, Concordia; 11 grandchildren, Aubri and Anthony Hanson, Enterprise, Ala., Dawn Moody, Garnett, Daniel Barnett and Amanda Collins, Emporia, Doran and Amanda Ford, Coquille, Ore., Megan and Ben Thrash, Owasso, Okla., Jennifer and Daniel Zywietz, Dubai, United Arab Emirates, Amy and Nikk Nelson, Lawrence, Deedra and Chad Frederick, Imperial, Neb., Randi Barnett and Clinton Canterbury, Wellsville, Zach Barnett, Lawrence, and Matt Barnett, Emporia; and three great-grandchildren, Allison Barnett Buchanan and Maxwell Buchanan, Enterprise, and Drake Thrash, Owasso.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Lewis Barnett, and his sister, Doris Hack.
A celebration of Barnett’s life will be this evening from 6 to 8 at Penwell-Gabel Funeral Home and Crematory.
